In a distressing incident on February 14, four students were shot and wounded outside Benjamin E. Mays High School in southwest Atlanta. The victims, three 17-year-old boys, and an 18-year-old boy were targeted in the lower campus parking lot around 4:15 pm, as students were leaving school for the day. The Atlanta Police Department later confirmed the detention of three individuals, including a man, a 35-year-old woman, and her 17-year-old daughter, in connection with the shooting.
The Atlanta Public School Police Department and Atlanta Fire Rescue responded promptly to the situation. All four victims were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Atlanta Public Schools issued a statement, stating that the matter is under investigation, and all after-school activities were canceled.
In a separate incident on the same day, during a Super Bowl parade in Kansas City, one woman died and 22 others, including nine children, were injured in a shooting. Three individuals were arrested, and law enforcement sources have clarified that the incident was not terror-related.
